BARRY L. OAKES is a graduate of the School of Engineering at Auburn University, Auburn, Alabama, with the degree Bachelor of Science in industrial engineering. Before entering private practice in 1990, Mr. Oakes worked 15 years as an industrial engineer in a variety of settings, including steel pipe, mining, textiles, wood products and foundry operations. Since 1990, Mr. Oakes has specialized in industrial safety, as well as technical aspects of catastrophic injury, including home and work site renovations and durable medical equipment bids and procurement. He has focused on implementing the Americans with Disabilities Act, including workplace accessibility, job modifications, machine modifications, ergonomics, job task analysis, and reasonable accommodations. Mr. Oakes has written or lectured for state, regional, national, and international training meetings on technical aspects of disability and ADA, including meetings of the Alabama Governor's Safety Conference, the Alabama Governor's Task Force on Safety and Workers' Compensation, the Alabama Restaurant Association, the Business Council of Alabama, the National Rehabilitation Association, the National Rehabilitation Counseling Association, the National Association of Service Providers in Private Rehabilitation, the National Association of Rehabilitation Providers in the Private Sector, the Commission on Disability Management Specialists (formerly CIRSC), the Michigan Association of Rehabilitation Providers in the Private Sector, the University of Florida Rehabilitation Training Institute, and the International Association of Diecutters and Diemakers. He has testified about industrial safety and cost containment before Alabama state legislative committees. Mr. Oakes is an industrial safety and technical consultant based in Atlanta, Georgia.

MARILYN TUCK OAKES graduated from Peabody College at Vanderbilt University, summa cum laude. She holds a Master of Arts degree in rehabilitation counseling from the University of Alabama - Birmingham (a Commission on Rehabilitation Education-accredited program) and attended the University of Kentucky graduate School of Social Professions. Mrs. Oakes is  the only Certified Life Care Planner in the United States with dual certification in rehabilitation counseling and pain management; she is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Alabama and Georgia. She has lectured or written for state, regional, national, and international meetings including the Alabama Bar Association family law section, the Alabama Bar Association workers' compensation division, the Alabama Trial Lawyers Association, the Business Council of Alabama, the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification, the Commission on Disability Management Specialists (formerly CIRSC), the National Association of Rehabilitation Providers in the Private Sector, the Michigan Association of Rehabilitation Providers in the Private Sector, the National Rehabilitation Association, the National Rehabilitation Counseling Association, National Business Institute continuing legal education, the International Association of Diecutters and Diemakers, and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America annual meeting. Mrs. Oakes has engaged in the private practice of rehabilitation counseling since 1979, including litigation consultation, alternative job placement, and designing and implementing reasonable accommodations for businesses and industries. She is listed in Who's Who in the South and Southeast and  The Library of Congress Distinguished Service Registry: Medical and Vocational Rehabilitation. Mrs. Oakes is a rehabilitation counselor based in Atlanta, Georgia.
